New Vintage and Cleaning Update

Now for the cleaning update - although I forgot to take any photos at all, I'm happy to report that I'm already into Day 3 and have been following the schedule to the letter. I think this could work! No more entire days dedicated to hours and hours of cleaning. Yay!!!

How About a Challenge?

Maybe I'm just feeling ambitious today, but I've just decided to take on a Cleaning Challenge. (This could possibly also be stemming from the fact that my disastrously messy dining room table has been driving me crazy all week, and I just can't seem to get it cleaned!)

I just came across this article on the Apartment Therapy blog - it's The 30 Day Cleaning Schedule.

If I can make myself do a few minutes of cleaning/tidying every day, then our house might actually stay clean! Sounds like it would require a miracle with all the dog and cat hair, but starting today, I'm taking on the challenge!

Now sadly, I did not find this article on December 1st which would be way too convenient, so by sometime in early January I should be done the first run-through of the list.

Stay tuned, and I'll let you know how this goes!!!

More Vintage Stools!

Don't worry, even though those gorgeous coral stools we had here at Relish are gone (they were certainly a hot item!) we have another pair of amazing vintage stools in stock.

These beautiful stools have a backrest and a footstool for comfort, a chrome base, and mottled green vinyl seats. And yes, they swivel. Awesome!

Vintage Desk!

We finally have room at Relish to bring out this lovely vintage desk - it's got a great silhouette, very stylish legs, and a matching chair! The desk is actually made in Sweden and features two shallow drawers across the top and a nice deep third drawer.

And have you seen the gorgeous fabric that we used to recover the chair seat?! Yummy!

I also just have to point out my most recent purchase.... this adorable folding metal card display rack in the shape of a Christmas tree! Look how great this works!

Vintage Barstools!

Ok, all you vintage-lovers, check out these incredible vintage barstools that just arrived at Relish this week. Chrome frame with coral vinyl seats that are flecked with gold. I mean, seriously!!

Holiday Open House!

The one consolation about the arrival of this cold weather is that the Holidays are coming! And lucky for you, the shops along James North are having a Holiday Open House on Friday November 25th and Saturday November 26th. This includes Relish, Mixed Media, Chaises Musicales, La Petite Spa, Humble Pie, White Elephant, i Fiori and Hawk & Sparrow.

This map shows you exactly where these shops are so you can't miss us!

Relish will be open from 11am-9pm on Friday and from 11am-6pm on Saturday, and everything in the store will be 15% off!!!

Now, I have to admit I'm one of those people who adores the Holiday season and actually does not ever get sick of hearing Christmas music. But what's not to love? An excuse to bake all kinds of treats, drink eggnog, and eat way more chocolate and cookies than are ever good for you. Not to mention a few days off to hibernate with family and friends and just enjoy spending some quality time together. Preferably involving chocolate.  :-)

Race for Grace

Did anyone see the article about the Race for Grace in the Spec this morning? Well if not, here's the link - check it out!

It's about the Banjul Challenge - a crazy car rally through the Sahara, starting in the UK and finishing in Western Africa, beginning in December. Sounds nuts, right? Well that just means that my husband Ilya really wanted to do it! 

"The Race for Grace" is the name Ilya has given to his car's journey on this car rally. He'll be raising money for Juravinsky Hospital in honour of Grace Carr, a close family friend, and will be driving a Toyota, of course, with generous support from Upper James Toyota.

It's a great cause, not to mention the adventure of a lifetime! Visit the Race for Grace website to find out more about the rally, and to donate - every little bit counts!

Men's Wallets!!

Good news for all you gift-hunters out there. Men's wallets have now arrived at Relish!

These TRIM wallets are a  bi-fold design with 6 inside pockets.

These LINER wallets are just slightly smaller with 4 pockets on the inside.

These beautiful leather wallets are made by hand by Broundoor, a Montreal-based artist who works exclusively with recycled, off-cut and scrap leather. (One of the great perks of using recycled leather is how gorgeous these wallets feel - they already have that worn-in buttery feeling. Very yummy.)

Also, don't forget that Relish will close at 4pm today so I can make it to the Art Gallery of Hamilton's Style and the City event (tickets are still available, so just follow the link to order yours now!).

Relish will also be closed Thurs Nov 17th and Fri Nov 18th because I'll be in Vegas witnessing a very close friend of mine get married by Elvis - not to be missed!! But don't worry, Relish will be open for the weekend, from 12-5 on Saturday and 12-4 on Sunday.

Relish in Yesterday's Spectator!!

Big news - Relish was in The Spectator!

Just in case you didn't catch the article on the front page (!!) of the GO section yesterday, here it is!

There's lots of great clothing featured from Relish (Preloved, Allison Wonderland, Simone's Rose), as well as shoes from Solee shoes, jeans from Rivet and Taylor, and accessories from White Elephant.

Vintage Treasures

I know my postings have been light in the last couple of weeks - things have been really busy at Relish! But in the meantime I've been picking up some great vintage. Here's a little preview of some of the treasures in the shop right now...

Just look at this amazing armchair! The velvet-y green fabric is in perfect condition and the wood legs and arms are just lovely!

And this washstand? Gorgeous honey-coloured wood, porcelain handles, and the original castors. Awesome!

And because we all need a little splash of colour and glamour in our lives, I decided to refinish this adjustable vanity chair in bright yellow, with deep turquoise velvet fabric. Yummy!

Live Music at Relish!

Ok kids, hold on to your hats. On Friday October 21st at 4pm, Steve Brockley WILL BE PLAYING LIVE right here at Relish!!!!!!

This is the album you need to own!

Steve and his band have toured through Hamilton a few times, and every time their performance is outstanding - the music is moody and catchy and the lyrics are both witty and heartfelt. You will absolutely be hooked once you hear these guys live.

The band will be giving us a live acoustic sampling of their great music - did I mention it will be LIVE?! - and then will be playing a full show later that evening at The Pearl Company. The performance at Relish is free and CD's will be for sale!

You do NOT want to miss this!!!

Project Day - Prepping for Art Crawl!

Can you believe Art Crawl is here again already?! Wow, these last few weeks have just flown by. Since Supercrawl, Relish has been getting lots of yummy new fall clothes, and lots of great vitnage goodies. So, first project is to give our Judies their new outfits.

This is the Hughes Blouse (and it's reversible - check out the back with the adorable bow detail!) by Simone's Rose, paired with the lovely Wiltshire Skirt by Allison Wonderland.

And one of the gorgeous Electra Wrap Dresses by Preloved.

And as far as shop projects go, I'm re-doing my window display - lots of putty to fill in all the holes and cracks and a couple of coats of paint to make this shiny and new (and easy to clean!). I'm trying to get this done by tomorrow, but we'll have to see....

And of course I've just taken down all the existing art to make room for new stuff - look, bare walls!!!

Simone's Rose is Here!

Ok, I'm trying to keep it together, but every time I receive an order from Simone's Rose, I'm just fluttering with excitement. (It's a wonder I can even type right now!)

I've just unpacked my fall order from this lovely line, and as usual, the clothing is not only gorgeous in the photos, but is actually even better in person! Here's a sneak peek at some of the items that we now have here at Relish...

This Dottie Chemise in navy blue chiffon with white polka dots. This loose-fitting chemise is a great layering piece and can be worn belted, tucked-in, or flowing and loose.

The Yanna Cardigan in a lovely rosey taupe made from organic cotton and hemp knit jersy, with vintage lace and button trim. I'm LOVING those mis-matched vintage buttons!

The Ciel Blazer comes is a lovely 1930's inspired silhouette, and also features those amazing vintage buttons. This bright turquoise is actually sold out, but we have it in a more muted, dusty blue teal - possibly even more lovely!

Ok, these might be my favourite - I mean, who doesn't need a pair of blue brocade shorts for the fall to pair with tights and some amazing boots?!

And that's not even all!! There's also a lovely detailed back cotton blouse and a great reversible blouse in a retro floral print.

Fantastic Fall Vintage

I've been collecting lots and lots of great fall vintage pieces at Relish, just in time for your Thanksgiving parties!

We have dishes, teapots, and cookie jars in shades of browns and creams...

platters, creamers, and condiment dishes in whites, blues, pinks, and taupes...

(and these condiment dishes are just adorable)

and lots of great glassware, from everyday glasses, to elegant tumblers detailed in gold.
